The Saskatchewan Medical Association is a voluntary professional association for physicians in Saskatchewan, where over 90 per cent of physicians are members. The SMA also represents the vast majority of medical students and residents training in Saskatchewan.

We represent the collective view of the medical profession in Saskatchewan, and negotiate for and on behalf of fee-for-service, salaried and alternate payment physicians.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent Team Lead, Insurance to join our growing team!

The Team Lead, Insurance has specialized expertise in insurance policy and administration to inform medical students, residents and physicians about the importance, value and benefits of SMA Insurance. SMA Insurance consists of lifestyle insurance products including life, disability, office overhead, accidental death & dismemberment, extended medical and dental, and medical office property. The Team Lead, Insurance builds business relationships internally and with external partners.

This position is based on-site at our office in Saskatoon, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option allowing remote work from home up to 2 out of 5 days per week subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Trusted relationship with members by demonstrating insurance expertise and guidance. Recommending appropriate SMA insurance products to SMA student, resident and physician members. Provide service regarding inquiries, applications, medical underwriting, financial underwriting, certificates, and changes within established parameters.
  2. Developing educational media and communications to members through seminars, direct consultations, publications, and technology tactics.
  3. Leveraging and strengthening relationships with external stakeholders such as insurance companies, University of Saskatchewan, provincial medical associations, resident and student associations, etc.
  4. Leadership through effective performance management, engaged communications, positive work environment, a learning culture and fostering cross-team alignment.
  5. Accountable for accuracy and effectiveness of insurance program delivery.
  6. Assists in developing a compelling long-term vision, operational plans, risk management, and monitoring progress against objectives and Key Performance Indicators.
  7. Cultivating innovation in the implementation and continual improvement of member insurance digital strategy and leveraging technological efficiencies.
  8. Conducts research on leading practices and emerging trends; conducts needs and gap analyses; identifies and/or recommends new initiatives and programs.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director, Membership, Insurance & Programs.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise and thorough knowledge of group and individual lifestyle insurance (life, disability, extended medical & dental, office overhead, critical illness, AD&D).
  • Insurance related education such as LLQP or CEBS preferred.
  • Familiarity with third-party administration of insurance policy.
  • Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Salary:

$93,369- $126,322 per annum commensurate with experience.

Reporting to the Supervising Physician, you will support a busy family medicine and women’s health practice by coordinating patient care, delivering chronic disease management, administering immunizations and point-of-care testing, providing focused counselling, and ensuring structured follow-up to improve outcomes and clinic flow. The role also includes triage, routine test-result communication, early pregnancy support, and preventive/genetic counselling.
