SMA Committees
The SMA relies on several committees for direction, advice and for conducting business for the medical profession. While most committees report to the Representative Assembly or Board of Directors, the SMA has several joint committees with external agencies such as the Ministry of Health and eHealth Saskatchewan.
SMA Members are encouraged to join one of the Committees below. If you see a vacancy and would like to learn more, click here.
Role of the Committee
To provide oversight and make recommendations on matters pertaining to socio-economic well-being of fee-for-service and non-fee-for-services physicians of Saskatchewan.

Committee Structure
The Economics Committee is appointed by the SMA Board of Directors and will consist of:
- the chairperson, and
- up to nine members
- members shall be chosen to represent a balance of economic expertise and perspective, including representation of physicians working under alternate payment plans.
None of the appointees shall act as Section representatives to the Intersectional Council.
None of the members shall be members of the Tariff Committee.
The Committee may invite for liaison purposes:
- Section representatives and/or individual physicians,
- members of other SMA committees

The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee will provide leadership, guidance and support to the SMA Board of Directors in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion with the ongoing aim of dismantling biases and discrimination experienced by the medical profession and to model an inclusive profession built on respect for one another.

Role of the Committee
The purpose of the Intersectional Council is to:
- Act as a sounding board to the Economics Committee with respect to the allocation of monies in the Payment Schedule.
- Act as a resource to the Tariff Committee with respect to addition, deletion or amendment of items in the Payment Schedule.
- Provide a forum where Sections can exchange views and air their economic concerns.

The Payment Schedule Review Committee is effectively a joint committee with the Medical Services Branch established by regulations under The Medical Care Insurance Act. The provisions below apply to the SMA appointees to the Committee.
