Chief Executive Officer
Location: Saskatoon, SK
The Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) is the voluntary professional association representing more than 90 percent of the province’s physicians and serves as the unified voice of the medical profession in Saskatchewan. Grounded in a vision of healthy, engaged, and empowered physicians leading high-quality patient care, the SMA advances the professional, personal, and economic wellbeing of its members while promoting a patient-centred health system. Through principled advocacy, robust member services, and strong governance anchored by its Representative Assembly and Board of Directors, the Association plays a central role in shaping compensation frameworks, health policy, and the broader evolution of care delivery across the province.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of the Association. As principal representative of the SMA, the CEO ensures that physician perspectives meaningfully inform system reform, workforce planning, and digital transformation. The role requires close partnership with the Board, stewardship of financial and human resources, and oversight of a broad portfolio of member programs and services.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished senior executive with deep experience in complex healthcare environments and public sector governance. A values-driven and transparent leader, they bring the credibility and diplomacy required to navigate high-stakes negotiations and build constructive relationships across government, regulatory bodies, and the medical community. Strategically minded and operationally disciplined, the successful candidate combines financial acumen with strong governance expertise, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to unify diverse physician voices around shared priorities.

Help shape the future of health care
Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on our local, provincial and national healthcare landscape and help shape its legislation and policy? Joining the SMA Legislation and Policy Committee offers a unique opportunity to do just that.
The committee currently has one vacancy.
Committee members oversee and provide recommendations on healthcare-related legislation and policy at local, provincial, and national levels. Their work includes reviewing existing legislation, proposed changes, and interpretations that impact medical practice in Saskatchewan. They also evaluate bylaws, regulations, policies and procedures from external bodies, such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, that affect the practice of medicine.

SMA Representative Required for Physician Compensation for Quality Improvement Program (PCQIP) Oversight Committee
A SMA representative is needed for the PCQIP Oversight Committee. The PCQIP Oversight Committee comprises representatives from the SMA, Ministry and Saskatchewan Health Authority, with input and advice from a non-voting member from the Health Quality Council. It is responsible for reviewing and approves applications for PCQIP funding. The SMA and Ministry provide PCQIP funding as part of the current Ministry / SMA negotiated agreement.
Under the PCQIP, physicians are eligible to be compensated for their time on approved QI projects and training.
The time commitment of a member of the PCQIP Oversight Committee is variable (as it is dependent on the number of applications received), but one can expect up to 10 – 15 hours per year. Most of this time is spent reviewing applications, which may be done on your own time, with results shared via email. Physicians are compensated for their PCQIP committee work.
Any physician with interest and experience in quality improvement, and who has been involved in QI projects would be well suited for this opportunity.
