This program compensates specialists for providing emergency care to new or unassigned patients as part of an established call rotation.

Specialist Physician Enhancement Training (SPET)
What is it?
Our Specialist Physician Enhancement Training (SPET) program provides funding to practising specialists in Saskatchewan to obtain additional clinical training and advanced education training.
Six annual grants of up to $110,000 are available to specialists practising in Saskatchewan. Funding is available for a maximum of two years and is based on the length of training. Candidates are encouraged to pursue studies at the University of Saskatchewan or another accredited North American teaching program. Approval will be at the discretion of the Committee.
All recipients will be required to fulfill a return-of-service commitment. Two years of service is required for each year of training received. Length of return-of-service is prorated according to the number of months funding was received.

Specialist Recruitment Incentive
What is it?
This program provides eligible specialists $30,000 for starting a medical practice in a Saskatchewan community and maintaining the practice for a minimum of 36 months.
Who is eligible?
Eligible physicians must:
- not have practiced in Saskatchewan during the past twelve months
- apply to receive an establishment grant no later than 12 months after starting practice in Saskatchewan
- be eligible to begin medical practice in Saskatchewan for 36 months and have either full (Section 28 – Medical Profession Act) or provisional (Section 29 – Medical Profession Act) registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).

Focused Funding for Priority Specialist Recruitment Program
What is it?
The Focused Funding for Priority Specialist Recruitment program will provide $30,000 to an eligible specialist (as determined by the Saskatchewan Health Authority/Saskatchewan Cancer Agency). The physician must establish a practice for a minimum of thirty-six months in Saskatchewan.
How can I learn more and apply?
Specialist Extended Leave Program
What is it?
This program reimburses specialist physicians for the costs and foregone practice income associated with doing personalized educational instruction. It also supports physicians to upgrade skills and knowledge in areas of their choice for periods between one and six weeks.
Eligible physicians may be able to claim up to $4,000 for each week of course attendance, to a maximum of six weeks.
Who is eligible?
Physicians must have 12 months of continuous licensure and have practised in Saskatchewan for at least 12 months prior to applying. Physicians who receive support from the fund will be expected to provide one month of service in Saskatchewan for every week of funding.
