SMA Job Opportunities
The SMA (www.sma.sk.ca) is a voluntary, member-based, professional association for physicians, medical students and residents in the province and it is the provincial chapter of the Canadian Medical Association. As the trusted voice of Saskatchewan’s 2,600 practicing physicians, the SMA negotiates for and on behalf of our doctors; supports the educational, professional, economic and personal well-being of physicians; and advocates for a high-quality and patient-centred, health-care system.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time, permanent Consultant, Workplace Wellbeing to join our growing team!
The Consultant, Workplace Wellbeing is responsible for providing a range of confidential services to students, residents, and physicians experiencing concerns/conflict in the workplace. Theyplay a key role in supporting and advocating for our members by managing complex cases, facilitating workplace wellbeing initiatives, and providing strategic guidance. This position engages with members, leadership, and other stakeholders at all levels, delivering expert advice, resolution services, and driving systemic changes to foster healthy, engaged, and resilient workplaces.
This role is also a key stakeholder ensuring existing health and wellbeing services (both internal and external) are fit-for-purpose as well identifying new services that will benefit our members. This is done in collaboration with stakeholders at local, provincial and national levels.
This position is based on-site at our office in Regina, with a voluntary hybrid work option allowing remote work from home up to 2 out of 5 days per week subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Advocacy and Case Management
- Conduct initial and ongoing bio-psycho-social assessments to understand individual needs and risks.
- Provide psychological and practical support (immediate and ongoing) to members navigating stressful or complex situations (e.g., workplace conflict, complaints). Attend meetings or hearings with members to ensure processes are followed and members are provided with real-time support.
- Deliver complex case management, coordinating cross-referrals to professional support services (e.g., counselling, legal services, regulatory colleges).
- Act as an advocate for members navigating complaints, disciplinary procedures, and billing audits.
- Collaborate with internal and external professional services (e.g., legal counsel, compensation and negotiations) when specialized input is required.
- Support members in understanding the implications of contractual terms, ensuring they make informed decisions.
- Ensure members receive timely and appropriate support whilst always maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
- Support members, team, and leaders in navigating change, ensuring psychological safety and resilience throughout transitions.
2. Conflict Resolution & Mediation
- Deliver conflict resolution and mediation services to proactively address interpersonal and organizational challenges.
- Promote constructive dialogue and effective problem-solving amongst individuals, workplace teams, and leadership.
3. Group Facilitation & Engagement
- Design and facilitate group sessions on workplace engagement, wellbeing, and team building that support a culture of open communication and psychological safety.
4. Coaching
- Provide one-to-one coaching to members and leaders on wellbeing, resilience, conflict management, and professional development.
- Use coaching frameworks to support personal and professional growth, improve coping strategies, and strengthen leadership capacity.
5. Strategy and Policy Development
- Collaborates with the Director, Physician Wellbeing and Support Programs, Physician Advocates, and other key stakeholders in the development of strategies, policies, and frameworks that promote workplace wellbeing and engagement.
- Provide evidence-based recommendations aligned with organizational goals and best practice standards.
6. Stakeholder Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with leaders, members, professional bodies and other partners.
- Advise leadership on emerging workplace wellbeing trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and information to the Medical Staff Association Presidents.
7. Reporting and evaluation
- Establish program key performance indicators (KPI); collects data and performs analysis on KPIs to evaluate effectiveness and performance of the services offered and to identify continuous improvement opportunities
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports, including case summaries, trend analysis, and strategic recommendations.
- Monitor outcomes of health and wellbeing programs and interventions ensuring continuous improvement.
- Create feedback surveys on leadership, wellbeing and engagement to benchmark and then create action plans.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or professional designation in psychology, human resources, mediation, coaching, nursing, or organizational development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Salary:
$78,690 – $106,463 per annum commensurate with experience.

We are seeking a full-time Clinical Coordinator to join our Physician Health Program (PHP). This is a 6-month term position, with the possibility of extension.
The Clinical Coordinator is a key clinical resource in providing a range of confidential services, including case management, referral, assessment, treatment, and on-going support to medical student, residents, physicians, and their families in pursuing and maintaining their personal health and well-being.
This position is based on-site at our office in Regina, SK, with a voluntary hybrid work option subject to approval under our Hybrid Work Arrangement policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical intervention for patients/clients who experience complex physical health, mental health, addiction, aging, relational, financial and/or personal health issues in terms of triage, assessment, treatment, monitoring, counselling/coaching, case management, treatment plan development/implementation, advocacy and referral to community resources for the Physician Health Program (PHP).Provides evidence based clinical strategies for both individuals and groups;
- Develops strategic relationships and collaborates with external stakeholders/agencies to advance the strategic goals of the Physician Health Program (PHP);
- Operationalizes program strategic goals, collaboratively develops educational and interventional initiatives/programs which address health and wellness concerns for students, residents, physicians and their family members;
- Collects data and evaluates effectiveness and performance of the PHP services offered and to identify continuous improvement opportunities;
- Provides leadership, guidance, liaison and support to the Physician Health Program committee (PHPC) and individual members of the committee;
- Recruits and maintains contractual relationships with various PHP services providers (i.e., clinicians/agencies);
- Participates in development of strategic SMA initiatives that promote the objectives of the PHP;
- Plans, develops and delivers educational sessions on a variety of health and wellness topics;
- Provides feedback and support to the administrative assistant located in head office (e.g., Saskatoon); and
- Performs other program related duties assigned by the Director, Physician Wellbeing & Support Programs.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in a clinical health profession (e.g., psychiatric nursing, social work, clinical psychology)
- 10 years’ experience in mental health/psychiatry and addictions
- Knowledge and experience in case management
Salary:
$81,978 – $102,258 per annum commensurate with experience.

The SR&R Committee provides oversight and makes appropriate recommendations regarding policy issues and funding matters in regard to the recruitment and retention of specialty physicians in Saskatchewan to the SMA Board of Directors and the Ministry of Health. The committee consists of SMA specialist physicians, and representatives from the Ministry of Health, Saskatchewan Health Authority, College of Medicine, Student Medical Society of Saskatchewan, Resident Doctors of Saskatchewan, and Saskatchewan Health Recruitment Agency.
The committee meets minimally semi-annually with virtual attendance available. Physicians are compensated on an hourly basis for time spent conducting committee business. Physicians must reside in Saskatchewan, be a duly qualified medical practitioner, and be practicing specialty medicine in Saskatchewan in order to be eligible for appointment.

The SMA is seeking a member to serve on the Joint Medical Professional Review Committee (JMPRC). The JMPRC is a physician peer review committee that was established by Section 49 of The Saskatchewan Medical Care Insurance Act. The committee members are physicians, two of whom are appointed by each of the SMA, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, and the Ministry of Health.
The committee is charged with the responsibility of reviewing the billing aspect of Saskatchewan physician’s pattern of medical practice. The committee meets virtually once per month (one full day and one half-day) nine times per year. Physicians are compensated on an hourly basis for time spent conducting committee business. Physicians must reside in Saskatchewan, be a duly qualified medical practitioner, and be practicing medicine in Saskatchewan in order to be eligible for appointment.
