Communities Come Together for Walk with Your Doc 2026

On May 15, physicians, patients, and community members across Saskatchewan took part in Walk with Your Doc 2026, a joint initiative of the Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).

Held just ahead of Saskatchewan Family Physician Day on May 19, the walks were part of a broader effort to recognize the role of family physicians and bring that recognition into communities across the province.

This year’s events unfolded under challenging weather conditions, but a cold, rainy day did not prevent communities from coming together. In some locations, participants braved the wind and rain to complete their walks. In others, plans were adapted, with clinics hosting indoor gatherings, BBQs, or offering snacks and refreshments so people could still connect.

Across the province, patients joined with family members, clinic staff took part, and local leaders and partners participated alongside physicians. The events created time outside of appointments to connect in a different setting, with a shared focus on health, community, and the relationships that support both.

Communities that participated in Walk with Your Doc 2026 included:

  • Regina
  • Saskatoon
  • Meadow Lake
  • North Battleford
  • Swift Current
  • Île-à-la-Crosse
  • Moosomin
  • Prince Albert
  • Melfort
  • La Ronge
  • Martensville

Walk with Your Doc focuses on encouraging physical activity and supporting meaningful connections between physicians and the people they care for. The strong turnout of patients and families this year, despite the weather, reflects how important those relationships are and the value people place on having a family physician.

The timing of the walks is intentional. Saskatchewan Family Physician Day, formally recognized on May 19 in alignment with World Family Doctor Day, provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of family physicians across the province. Walk with Your Doc helps bring that recognition into local communities in a visible and practical way.

Thank you to everyone who participated!
