Life Insurance

SMA life insurance is a term insurance product available exclusively to members and their spouses, under the age of 75. SMA life insurance is insured by Manulife Financial and is sold in units of $50,000. You may choose as many units as you wish up to a maximum of $5 million. Coverage ends at age 75.

Disability Insurance

SMA disability insurance is available exclusively to members of the SMA under the age of 65 who are actively at work at the time of application. The SMA disability insurance plan is insured by Manulife Financial and has solid definitions, many benefits at no extra cost, choice of coverage combinations and generous benefit limits.

The amount of disability insurance obtainable is determined by monthly earned net income (after expenses, but before taxes) to a maximum disability coverage amount of $25,000/month under a selection of elimination and benefit periods.

A new General Practitioner within the first 2 years of practice in Saskatchewan may apply for up to $7,500/month of total disability insurance coverage without proof of income, and new specialists may do the same for up to $11,000/month. However, should you have financial proof of greater income, you are not limited to the $7,500 or $11,000.

Coverage ends if you are no longer in active practice, or at age 70.

Office Overhead Insurance

Office overhead insurance is designed to cover your office overhead expenses in multiples of $100/month (from a minimum of $500/month up to a maximum of $15,000/month) while you are totally disabled. The plan is insured by Industrial Alliance. Members must be under the age of 69 at time of application. Coverage ends if you are no longer in active practice, or at age 70.

Extended Medical & Dental Group Benefits

The Extended Medical & Dental group benefits program is available to SMA members, their dependents, employees and their dependents. The package, insured by Manulife Financial, includes medical, dental, vision, and travel insurance, as well as a Health Care Spending Account. No medical underwriting is required and coverage begins on the 1st of the month following receipt of a completed application. All premiums may be deducted as an expense under the corporation if incorporated, or under medical expenses on income tax if you are not incorporated. Coverage ends if you are no longer in active practice, or at age 70.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance is a stand-alone plan, insured by Industrial Alliance. Members must be under the age of 69 at the time of application. No medical underwriting is required, and coverage ends at age 75. Coverage is available up to $1,150,000.
