Contract • Saskatchewan Medical Association • , SK
This is a contractual part-time position.
Who we are
The Saskatchewan Medical Association (www.sma.sk.ca) is a voluntary, member-based, professional association for physicians, medical students and residents in the province and it is the provincial chapter of the Canadian Medical Association. As the trusted voice of Saskatchewan’s 2,300 practising physicians, the SMA negotiates for and on behalf of our doctors; supports the educational, professional, economic and personal well-being of physicians; and advocates for a high-quality and patient-centred, health-care system.
The SMA influences health-care transformation through advocacy and collaboration. Physician leadership, integrated team-based care, and an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and patient-centred care are foundational aspects of a first-class health-care system; this is what the SMA envisions for Saskatchewan.
The SMA is guided by the following values: Professionalism, Leadership, Accountability, Compassion and Excellence. In other words PLACE matters at the SMA!
The Saskatchewan Medical Association is seeking a physician mentor to work within the Communications and Community Engagement department; the physician mentor will be focused on supporting the SMA’s Roadmap Program. The Roadmap Program was launched in 2012 to support medical learners in exploring the opportunities available to them in Saskatchewan, particularly in rural and regional centres.
The physician mentor position is a part-time commitment for a practising family physician who is currently practising in a rural/regional setting. The physician mentor’s primary role will be to accompany SMA staff and medical learners on Roadmap Program events held in communities around Saskatchewan. These events are designed to provide learners with an exposure to rural contexts, and provide physician engagement and mentorship. There are a number of core events which require attendance while other duties require advice/and or guidance for medical learners and SMA staff.
The physician mentor will also become a key leader and ambassador of the Roadmap Program, and will support medical learners and SMA staff via email, meetings, text and phone calls outside of Roadmap Program events when needed.
